Two more teams to go! This is week 8 out of 9 in which we'll present you portraits of the Magic Marine family, including the latest updates about our qualified sailors, their dilemmas and we will share their favorite Magic Marine items! And even though all qualifying options for the members of the Magic Marine family are behind them, there are still a few training events in the calendar before summer starts, we will keep you posted!
Representing Argentina in the full foiling Nacra 17 this summer are legends Santiago Lange and Cecillia Carranza, or as we know them: Santi and Ceci. This will be their second campaign together.
In April 2017, we caught up with Santi to look back on the summer when they won gold in Rio (their first!) and to talk about their future plans, dreams and goals. Participating in the Olympics six times and winning gold at the age of 54 also led to being awarded World Sailing sailor of the year later in 2016. We also really wanted to know if Santi was going to target a 7th and a second top spot, this time in the fully foiling Nacra 17.
His answer was: ‘Another campaign is a long road, a really long road... But I really enjoy what I do. I enjoy sharing sailing with my sons Klaus and Yago, and with Ceci and my team, so why not keep on going?’
At the time he didn’t know it was going to be a longer road that he could have imagined. But here we are, only a few weeks away from Tokyo...
‘It’s a total different game for everyone this year,’ Santi and Ceci share with us when we asked how their preparation have been. ‘We haven’t been able to race frequently, but we trained with the Italians, Britts and the Austrians for quite a long period.’
’It was special to be together with other teams for a longer stretch, but we also have no idea what other teams have been doing. It’s fascinating because it’s all new and different for everyone. We just have to be very flexible and smart in this unusual circumstances and keep on anticipating.’
